Aloha

Foster Update - 08/08
Aloha has made amazing strides since coming into our home just about a week ago. When she first arrived, it was obvious the poor girl was stressed out by having been in the shelter and abandoned by her family. She was happy to be in a home with us – her tail wagged constantly – but she looked very anxious and was panting and having trouble settling down. But within a day or two she was like a different pup! She's so amazing! After she had a day or so to decompress from being in the shelter, she settled right into our routine and now is a relaxed, playful, and comfortable pup who just really seems to enjoy life completely. Her tail still wags constantly.

She's obviously had some training. She figured out our dog door instantly and has never once had an accident in our house or in her crate. She also knows how to sit. Next, we are going to work on "lie down". We have her in the crate when we are away from home; we just have to put a treat in the crate and she walks right in.

She plays wonderfully with our other dog Dolce. They have turned into good friends. And Aloha has been great with every dog she has met, including our friend's little Boston terrier puppy. Aloha would love to play all day. Sometimes Dolce wants to sack out instead. When that happens, Aloha often will come find us to have some human companionship. She likes to be near people and will follow us around the house if Dolce had decided to take a breather from playing. And with our cat, Aloha is mildly curious but mostly leaves the cat completely alone. She may give the cat an occasional sniff out of curiosity, but nothing more.

Another great thing about Aloha is that she is not a barker. When people come to the house, she does not bark. She's just very excited to meet someone new. And she doesn't jump on them either. She just wiggles about in excitement and wags her tail extra hard. So far, Aloha has also been great on the leash. She doesn't really pull much – seems to want to stay near your side.

Adopting me will be a lifelong commitment, and my new family needs to be ready, willing and able to provide me not only with lots of love as an indoor member of the family, but also with ongoing training and socialization.

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.

We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
