Mallory
Even though Mallory didn't have a very good start in life, she is a loving, affectionate girl who holds no grudges because of what was done to her in the past. At the urging of a concerned neighbor, animal control responded to a call about a dog that was being abused. What they found when they got to the house was poor Mallory, bloody and scarred, living a very sad life as a bait dog for dogfighting. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was taken away from her "owner" (if you can call it that) and brought to the shelter for care. It wasn't long before staff and volunteers fell in love with her wonderful personality, despite her terrible fight wounds all over her face, neck and forearms. As you can see from her photos, she has responded well to treatment and her fur is almost grown all the way back in now, with just faint scarring. All in all we have to say that she's been a real trooper and didn't waste any time winning us over when we went to meet her!
Now that Mallory is in foster care, she is truly loving life. She's getting lots of TLC and even has a dog buddy to play with. That's right, after all she's been through, Mallory still likes to meet other friendly dogs and tries to get them to play with a quick playbow and a goofy boxer-style pat with her paw. She will approach them a bit shyly and cautiously at first, but once she knows they're not going to hurt her she turns into a bouncy, happy girl! Mallory also knows sit and shake, and loves her treats which will make her a real quick learner with her ongoing positive reinforcement training. She is also very gentle with kids and should do well in an adoptive home with dog-smart children.
Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
