Maverick (aka Buddy)

foster update - 07/08:
He is great with people of all ages. He is very mellow and just walks up and nuzzles his nose up to you and wags his tail. He loves to be near people and will try to sit in your lap if allowed.

He loves to play tug, but will always let you win. He also plays fetch with a ball or toy and when he brings it to you, he lets go of it right away. He is very aware of your playstyle and adjusts accordingly. He also loves to play out doors, especially where he can run around with you.

He loves Nylabones and Kong bones. He also likes to play fetch with a tennis ball. He will occasionally play tug with a rope, but he likes to tear up the rope more.

Buddy is a very goofy boy. He gets so excited to go out on walks that his tail knocks everything off of coffee tables. He spins around in a circle in anticipation and sometimes his tail will knock the wall. He hears the knocking sound and then gets even more excited because now he thinks someone is at the door to say hello to him.

I have a 2 year old female dog at home who loves to play and wrestle. Her playstyle is very rough and loves to use her paws to play. Buddy plays just as hard as she does and does not get upset or aggressive, even if she bites a little too hard or scratches him. He then switches back to his mellow self and entertains himself with a bone or toy. He is content to play when she wants or just let her be alone and play with toys. However, he does have to play with whatever toy she is playing with and vice versa.

The ideal family would have to want to love a goofy, fun loving lab who loves the water and people. He loves to be outdoors, so a family with a yard would be best. However, he loves to go on frequent walks. Other than that, the ideal family would be one who lets him fullfill their lives.

Buddy does like to horde his toys and bones. He will not get aggressive to protect them, but he will pile them up and try to cover them occassionally. Even though he is crate trained, he will try to escape from a crate. So a double latch crate would suit him best.

Buddy Jr. came from a local shelter after his owners never came looking for him. We're still puzzled by this, because he's the coolest dog on the planet, hands down. Buddy Jr. is a Labrador Retriever mixed with a dash of Pit Bull, but his personality is all labbie. Even though he's not a true pit (well ok, he's sort of close), PBRSD could not pass up his stellar character and let him stay in the shelter another day.

Buddy's a great big goofy puppy at heart, super sweet and an all-around good sport. He loves other dogs and is a really easygoing guy. He's also housetrained and somewhat of a doggie genius. This boy is smart! He loves meeting new people and dog friends, and gets along great with kids. True to his breed, he's a water lover and can't get enough of the wet stuff.

We're certain that Buddy is going to make the perfect addition to the right family. If you think he'd be a good match for your home, consider submitting an application today!

Adopting me will be a lifelong commitment, and my new family needs to be ready, willing and able to provide me not only with lots of love as an indoor member of the family, but also with ongoing training and socialization.

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.

We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
