Oliver
It's safe to say that Oliver has had it pretty rough in his young life. He and 4 members of his American Bulldog family were brought to the shelter by animal control officers after they were found running loose in their neighborhood. During the confusion, which involved calls to the authorities, pepper spray was used -- OUCH! -- which proved unnecessary in the end, after it was soon discovered how friendly they were, even as they were loaded into the truck.
Naturally, after finding out the costs involved to get all of their unaltered dogs back, the owner decided he no longer wanted them. Not even the mama dog who was nursing 8 little babies. Two weeks after coming in to the shelter, Oliver is now the last remaining one of the five. On a recent visit, we found him to be very friendly and invited plenty of hugging and petting. We wouldn't recommend him with cats or very small dogs, but he's playful and bouncy with ones his size or larger.
We weren't surprised to find that his upbringing as a neglected outdoor dog had left him a bit shy and, the saddest part of all, terrified of toys. The first time we bounced a squeaky ball his way, he flinched and jumped in the opposite direction. He did recover well from the new sights and sounds though, and was back to being an inquisitive, social boy in no time.
Since he's still at the shelter, he needs a foster home as soon as possible. If you can help give this boy a second chance at life, he is definitely ready and willing to be your new (and forever grateful) friend!
Oliver is going to require entropion surgery on both of his lower eyelids. It looks like he has had this for some time, the poor baby. You can be sure that getting pepper-sprayed didn't help....

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
